| College Station , TX - A very strong A&M second team played LSU’s second team and wished to continue their good form after beating Rice the previous weekend. Again the game was interrupted by fights and needless scuffles culminating in Aggie scrum half Travis Stubbs sending off just before the final whistle. Using the same referee as the 1st XV game, the inconsistencies again played a large part. | |
| Unfortunately, aside from the disciplinary incidents and try extravaganza, the match was largely without any other focus. LSU managed only a few attacking moves the entire game and resorted to playing dirty, to which the majority of the Aggie players could rise above. However, there is a line and on several occasions the Aggies crossed it. Aggie scrumhalf Stubbs was sin binned for stamping and punching which was later substantiated by the game video. No Tiger was reprimanded anything other than awarding one or two penalties in A&M’s favor. The play though was good to watch as again the well-drilled pack scrummed and played line-outs very well, to the delight of forwards coach Johnny Smith. Andre Lewis played well and had a thirty metre run in which he literally ran out of his shoes to the great amusement of his teammates and coaches. Lock Nat Parsons, flankers Charles Admire and Mark Batey, No. 8 David Grillot, and winger Noah Smithwick had brilliant games. The backrow forwards were an ever present in the rucks and mauls and made some clinical breaks. Smithwick is showing his ability and although has only recently learned the sport, has reinforced his play at training with a quality performance on match day. The backs are really coming together as a unit. The more they play together the more they improve. A multitude of tries from the Aggies was a real positive as the players tried to keep the game going with a touch of class. With tries from Andrew Dunkle, Jeremy Hunt, Nat Parsons, Noah Smithwick, Nick Bendorf, Charles Admire, David Grillot, and Brian Vogt, the score ran up to a massive 65-7. A game in which the Aggies were superior rounded off a good weekend for the traveling team. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the test against the University of Texas on Saturday in College Station. |
