  The Memorial Scholarships

In memory of Anthony "A-Train" Matocha, who tragically died at a young age on July 25, 2004, the Old Maroon RFC has initiated a rugby scholarship, which is aimed to benefit a deserving young rugby player at Texas A&M. This rugby Scholarship will allow a young outstanding player, selected by the Texas A&M R.F.C. and the Old Maroon R.F.C., to help fund their tuition, books and traveling while studying and playing rugby at Texas A&M University

The Lyle Gordon Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated in the spring of 2005 after the tragic loss of one of our Old Maroon brothers. Throughout his rugby career at Texas A&M Lyle "Smiles" Gordon '97 was an outgoing, funny, but very powerful asset to the team and we are certain he would have fully supported this opportunity for a deserving young rugby player at Texas A&M.

The Gareth Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated in the winter of 2005 after the tragic loss of one of our brothers, a current player. Even though his rugby career at Texas A&M fell short, Gareth Jones '09 was a superb teammate that was well liked on and off the field. He had the tenacity of a pit bull with a quiet disposition off the field. He never missed a practice or a game and wore the maroon jersey with pride. he was an asset to the team in more ways than one and we are certain he would have fully supported this opportunity for a deserving young rugby player at Texas A&M.

Congratulations to David Grillot for winning the Gareth Jones Memorial Scholarship this year!

  David Cherrybone Memorial Scholarship

In memory of David Cherrybone, who tragically died at a young age in 2002, the Woodlands R.F.C., a premier Texas men's club, has initiated a rugby scholarship, which is aimed to benefit the best young rugby players in Texas. David Cherrybone, throughout his playing career with the Woodlands and the Austin Huns, was a tremedous supporter of and recruiter for the Woodlands R.F.C. and we are certain that he would have fully supported this opportunity for a Texas A&M student.

  A&M scholarships

To assist in out-of-state tuition, books and traveling costs, Texas A&M has initiated it's own rugby scholarships. Funds donated by Old Maroon R.F.C, family, friends, and supporters go into a scholarship account and they are awarded every, or every other semester depending on available funds.
